Below is a brief overview of the message I preached this weekend at KT
Title: The Power of One Word
Words are powerful
Words can empower, encourage, Inspire and lift people both spiritually and mentally.They can also have the opposite effect they can discourage, wound and leave long standing hurts that develop into defense mechanisms over many years.
Were all listening to something
The world is a very noisy place that demands we listen, the media wants us to listen to what they think we should believe. The human mind can be incredibly disturbed by words spoken to us as children through to adulthood especially by those near us such as family or friends.
The effects of negative words
Sadly many people today never fulfill their potential in life as they have allowed themselves to be hypnotized by negative words.
The way you talk to yourself or allow others to talk to you can have an enormous effect on your confidence and self-esteem. If you use or hear predominately negative words it will, over time, have a detrimental effect on how you view yourself.
Using negative words is a fast-track to low confidence, unhappiness and unrealized goals and regrets.
Negativity can color your whole world in drab shades of grey, stopping you from improving your life, leaving you feeling stuck and frustrated.
The frustrating thing about negative words is that they are mostly completely untrue. It is not true that you fail at everything you do or that everyone dislikes you. And it is definitely not true that you are not a worthwhile person. However, if you continue beating yourself up by habitually using negative words about yourself, you will unfortunately start to actually believe these negative statements.
We must learn to listen to God's Word and let it effect our lives
God’s Word is powerful is sharper than two edged sword it does not return to Him void it's the the incorruptible seed and by it faith comes.
One Word from God changes everything, whatever your walking in today, whatever storms your facing God has a Word for you. It’s not time to call it a day, to walk away or hang your gloves up! Stand tall throw your shoulders back remind the devil where he’s going, tell him to step back because your coming through! WHY? Because you have a Word from God.
That great preacher of old and campaigner for equal rights Martin Luther had a word when giving what has become one of the world’s most quoted passages of any speech;
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.
Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land.
Other great men such as William Booth;
“While women weep, as they do now, I'll fight; while children go hungry, as they do now I'll fight; while men go to prison, in and out, in and out, as they do now, I'll fight; while there is a drunkard left, while there is a poor lost girl upon the streets, while there remains one dark soul without the light of God, I'll fight, I'll fight to the very end!”
